Let's be honest, mens fashion shows have not been as interesting in the last few years as they used to be, so the job of the runway model is even more vital. A good runway model must convince the buyer of the urgent need for the clothes on their back. They need to convey how the clothes make you feel, how they make you move and make you imagine all the destinations you’d go in those clothes. They must sell us a dream right there and then. I’ve often said before that I believe that in fashion the model is as important as the product, maybe even more so. This is especially true on the runway. A model that can sell a product in a picture - that goes through photoshop and every correction you can think of - is one thing, but a model that can sell a garment simply by walking in it, is one in a million. This is why good show casting is so important, it is an incredibly intricate skill and I stand in admiration of those that do it very well. Nevertheless, it’s not critiqued as often in mens fashion as in womens, but, most models that look great in images don’t always translate that magic on the runway. This is for a couple of reasons, NUMBER 1: being THE WALK. I need male models to realise that a good walk is essential to their career and ascension into stardom. A good walk makes you stand out, makes you look like a professional and most importantly, elevates the product/clothes you are selling. Number 2: is PRESENCE. You have to bring a presence and energy to a room that can be felt even through the computer and phone screens live streaming every runway you walk. I’m not saying you have to be distracting or cocky, the contrary. You have to radiate an energy of sophistication and precision. That comes from confidence and practice, practice, practice. The same way you walk down the street, should not be the same way you walk for LV or Valentino - also taking into account that every show will have a mood and pace they are aiming for. However, this is the perfect opportunity to develop a walk that is adaptable and develop a presence that radiates regardless of the brief for a show. In other words, whether you’re walking down a large runway on the streets of Paris or in a small showroom in London, your presence and walk should draw attention to you and THE PRODUCT. This is something that goes unsaid in womens fashion because it’s almost a requirement to book a show. I bring this up because I saw a lot of walks this season that need to improve drastically and also walks that blew me away. This is bound to happen when we have such an influx of new models coming in, alongside much more established models. Ofcourse, we won't be comparing newer models to the likes of Kit Butler, Fernando Lindez, Alpha Dia or Noah Brown (who i think models can look to for help to improve their walks and presence on the runway) but rather, picking out a list of fairly new faces that really stood out on the runway and brought so many of the Spring Summer 2024 collections to life.
This list is more about the quality of a model’s presence and walk on the runway than the quantity of shows they book; shows come and go but a good runway model is forever.

@RebelManagement
The top spot goes to Habib Masovic, whose presence on the runway reminded me of a legendary 90s runway model. He adapted his walk for every show but still kept his identity on each runway, managing to still keep both the effortless and chic manor to his strut. He manages to be sexy and coy in every look he wears. I can see Habib becoming one of the biggest names in fashion on and off the runway. Habib walked for the likes of Dolce and Gabbana, Jacquemus, Giorgio Armani, and Dsquared2 this SS24 Collections season.
